bio
Ania Brzeski (b.1994, London) is a visual artist and designer based in San Francisco, CA. Her practice explores how language shapes personal identity. Working in painting, drawing and textiles, she examines how relational ties emerge through, and are confined within, our conceptions of language.
Her work plays with the visual elements of writing to create coded, encrypted and asemic texts expressing the potentiality of meaning. A grid structure is recurrent in her work, representing a matrix for communication; each unit only exists in relation to its neighbours.
Brzeski has developed an abstract aesthetic as a painter and ceramicist, working at the intersection of art and design within her creative studio IF A THEN B. Her background is in ceramics and she worked as a designer and potter until 2023 when she began moving into an art practice. Repetition is a defining element of her practice, a remnant of her background as a production maker.
